Policy on study projects/research projects
1. All students commencing a study project are required to submit
a form to the Study Project Co-ordinator for formal acceptance and
allocation of supervisor(s). Notwithstanding this, staff will have
discussion with students, and students will be invited to suggest
a possible supervisor.
2. Students will be required to submit progress reports to the
Study Project Co-ordinator as directed by their supervisors. Following
receipt of these reports students and their supervisors may be interviewed
on progress by either the Head of School, the Chair of the School
Postgraduate Studies Committee or their nominee.
3. Assessable items which will make up a study project are as follows.
(a) A proposal. This will include a rationale and a methodology,
submitted in written form. This proposal will be reviewed by a
the supervisor and if it is deemed necessary defended by the student
to a panel of senior staff.
(b) A literature review which demonstrates the derivation of
the project'sresearch problem question(s) and rationale.
(c) A research report in the form of either a paper for a refereed
journal (identified and guidelines for authors submitted) or a
report in an agreed format. The final report format will be determined
on the recommendation of the supervisor. The final submission
date is October 31. On this day students will submit a package
containing their proposal, literary review and research report.
On receipt of this package the Study Project Coordinator will,
in consultation with the Chair of the School Postgraduate Studies
Committee, allocate assessors. All assessment will be according
to criteria developed by supervisors and made known to students.
