Plagiarism - School Policy

Plagiarism is the submission of work which is not your own for which you claim credit. This can extend to work which you have done in a group and fail to acknowledge that the work is the product of a group. The University has adopted the following definition of plagiarism - (http://www.uq.edu.au/hupp/contents/view.asp?s1=3&s2=40&s3=12).

The School of Natural and Rural Systems Management will follow strict misconduct proceedings under University of Queensland Statute No. 4 (Student Discipline and Misconduct) 1999, when work in which plagiarism is evident is submitted. This Statute provides severe penalties for students found guilty of plagiarism.
Head of School's advice is to

  • Submit only work which is your own, or which properly acknowledges the ideas or words of others,
  • Avoid lending original work to others for any reason,
  • Be clear about assessment conditions for assessment items,
  • Be clear about what is appropriate referencing and assessment practice in your field of study,
  • Discourage others from plagiarising by observing the practices above.

All assignments submitted must have a coversheet that includes a "Statement of Original Authorship" which requires your signature. Coversheets are available from the School of Natural and Rural Systems Management Reception desk.
