Dr King is currently employed as a Senior Lecturer in Extension for The University of Queensland. She lectures in three main courses: Extension and Change Management; Research, Development and Extension Methodologies; and Group Dynamics, Negotiation and Adult Learning. She is also responsible for supervision of PhD and Masters students; undertaking research in her key areas (ie. multi-stakeholder learning, negotiation and action, participatory research and extension, and strategic learning processes for systemic intervention and change; eg. Social Learning, Participatory Action Research, Adaptive Management).
Christine's knowledge of the concepts, issues and strategies of contemporary change processes in agriculture and natural resource management has been built upon over ten years of study specialising in Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) methodology. She also has ten years experience as a practitioner, leader and trainer in extension development and social research in the national and international arena. She has experience in Indonesia, Australia, India, Cambodia, Chile, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Sweden, New Zealand, PNG, and South Africa. She is currently the Project Leader of an ACIAR Project in the Pacific Islands.
Current positions held by Dr King include: The Australian Representative on the Board of the International Farming Systems Association; and Editorial Board for the International Journal of Agricultural Sustainability and International Journal of Experimental Agriculture. Professional highlights include: Keynote addresses to the Pacific Islands Extension Summit in Tonga, 2005 and the PNG National Extension Summit in Lae, 2004; F inalist for the Sir Edward Dunlop Memorial Award in 2000 for ‘addressing poverty alleviation, inequity and disadvantaged communities' through facilitating their development in participatory extension and social research; and Winner of a National Queen's Trust Award in 1999 for redressing disadvantage in both Australia and India through RD&E, and for ‘showing admirable qualities in the pursuit of excellence and leadership'.
