Gatton Campus

What are they?

Student year representatives are one or two elected representatives from each year of each program (Agribusiness, BBus Environmental Tourism, Natural Systems and Wildlife, Rural Systems, Tropical Forestry, Protected Area Management, Environmental Tourism, Wilderness Reserves and Wildlife, Forestry, Nature Conservation and Marine Resources).

What do they do?

Represent "the year" at meetings with the Head of the School to discuss issues of relevance to "the year", then provide feedback to "the year". As elected representatives they are the equivalent of "shop stewards".

Your program representatives also take issues of mutual concern to the responsible lecturers for discussion and action.

How and when are they elected?

Representatives are elected at the beginning of each year in the first two weeks of semester. Each program determines the form of ballot to be used (either secret or show of hands).

Program representatives are the vital link (but not the only link) between "the year" and the School of Natural and Rural Systems Management. Individual students may still wish to represent themselves, and may do just that.

St Lucia Campus

Students from the Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science at St Lucia, including Bachelor of Natural Resource Economics and Bachelor of Environmental Science (Natural Resource Science specialisation) students, can belong to the Queensland Agricultural and Forestry Students Association and be represented by their respective year nominees.

A student chapter of the Australian Agriculture and Resource Economics Society also operates and a third year student in Bachelor of Natural Resource Economics is normally appointed as convenor of that group to organise social functions and other meetings.

Scholarships and prizes

Scholarships are advertised on the noticeboards as they are offered. In addition, a list of scholarships appears in University News, the University newspaper.

Information on the range of undergraduate scholarships, including application forms, can be obtained from the Prizes Officer, Level 6, J.D. Story Building (phone (07) 3365 2033).

Students should refer to the Student Handbook ....a Survival Guide, for a list of specific scholarships and prizes for the year.

Rules of awards and financial assistance governed by University Rules appear in the Financial Awards and Prizes Rules section of the Yearbook.

Some awards and financial assistance require applications to be made, while others are prizes awarded automatically each year.
